Discovered in the attic of a Dorset property, the trunk had been there for the past 30 years since being given to the owner by a neighbour who no longer wanted it. It retains inner trays and straps and is numbered 180091 on the label on the inside of the lid.

A 19th century bottle of sherry found in the cellar of London’s Apsley House, former home of the 1st Duke of Wellington (1769-1852), has re-emerged from a private collection. It will be offered in an auction of Fine and Rare Wine and Spirits at Dreweatts of Newbury on July 21.
This sherry, estimated at £300-700, is believed to have been bottled at Apsley House between 1850-70. It was purchased in 1977 at a Christie’s sale of wines from Apsley House and has been stored in a Hampshire cellar ever since.
