Gallant was previously at Asian art dealership Sydney L Moss where she spent eight years, most recently as business development manager and financial controller.

During this period she completed her law degree and worked on the major issues for the firm including preparing for Brexit, Anti-Money Laundering and the Ivory Act.

Prior to her role at Sydney L Moss, she worked with art dealer Richard Green and in the valuations department at Sotheby’s.

Previously she worked at galleries and cultural institutions in her native Canada.

Gallant has been a member of the BADA Council for more than four years.

New challenges

Louise Phillips, chairman of BADA, said: “The past few years have brought many new challenges for the fine art and antiques trade, and therefore it is vital that the right person is appointed to navigate these and to take the association forward.

“The interview panel felt that, having seen a strong shortlist of candidates, Ashley Gallant, with her experience and obvious passion and enthusiasm for the trade, is the right person for this role.”

Earlier this year BADA’s director of strategy and operations, Kathryn Singer, left to join historic homes estate agent Inigo. Last year BADA appointed Lord Carrington of Fulham as honorary president. Phillips has been chairman since December 2020.

BADA’s former chief executive, Marco Forgione, left in 2019 to head the Institute of Export and International Trade.
