On December 30 in the sale of Fine and Decorative arts held by Besch (21.25% buyer’s premium) in Cannes as part of its December auction series, an 18 x 21½in (45.5 x 54cm) oil on canvas depicting the regatta at Cowes in 1929 realised €82,000 (£68,910).

'The Racecourse at Epsom' by Dufy – $100,000 (£74,075) at Nadeau’s.
The following day at Nadeau’s (23% buyer’s premium) New Year’s Day sale in Connecticut, the artist’s gouache and watercolour of the racecourse at Epsom proved to be a top-seller when it sold within estimate at $100,000 (£74,075).
The work, which measured 19½in x 2ft 2in (49.5 x 66cm) and is in the catalogue raisonné of watercolours, gouaches and pastels by the artist, had a provenance to Perls Galleries New York. It was signed and titled Epsom and bore the inscription Mr. Furse 925 Park 7C on its cardboard backing.
The Art Deco side cabinet by Jacques Emile Ruhlmann previewed in ATG No 2523 was another of the top lots at Nadeau’s, selling for $40,000 (£29,630) against a guide of $50,000-100,000.
