Hilary Proctor, doyenne of London’s vintage fashion scene in Portobello Road for the past 40 years, has launched a new venture downstairs at the Admiral Vernon Antiques Centre.

This vintage fashion collective will be known as Underground at Admiral Vernon. Proctor has already taken shop space there and is keen to attract more traders.

Proctor, who also has a shop in Portobello Road, said: “Vintage fashion is at an all-time high in popularity with the younger generation.

“My vision is to attract lots of enthusiastic fashion-focused traders to take stands in Underground and have a breath of fresh air blowing through the Admiral Vernon.”

Ten-plus units will be available to vintage fashion dealers in Underground but more will be made available if the venture takes off. There are currently between 80 and 100 dealers at the antiques centre and 30 to 40 trading downstairs.

Warren Todd, owner of the Admiral Vernon Antiques Centre, said: “With Hilary Proctor taking a prime trading location underground at the centre, she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the vintage fashion market. We are confident that this addition will enhance the centre and encourage other dealers to trade there.”
