Gritty and often grotesque, Berry’s works focused on the people and places around post-war Burslem where he studied and later taught art.
Written by art historian Peter Davis and blogger Anthony Cosgrove, Arthur Berry: A Ragged Richness covers Berry’s life from his early days in Stoke, making use of papers from the artist’s estate, which Stoke-on-Trent gallery Barewall has recently worked on recording.
The publication precedes a major exhibition by the same name which runs at The Brampton Museum and Art Gallery in Newcastle-under-Lyme from January 15-March 6.
