To mark the anniversary it is staging a sale of fine photographs on February 10 that will range from early masters of the medium to contemporary works.

Pictured here is one of the highlights from the mid century. Ansel Adams’ Oaktree, Snowstorm, Yosemite Valley, 1948 is a rare silver print measuring 9¼ x 7½in (23.5 x 19cm) that has Adams’ signature in pencil on the mount recto and the notation For Portfolio I in pencil on the mount verso.

The print, acquired by the vendor from the Alinder Gallery, Gualala, California, by the present owner in 2020, is the same size as Adams’ Portfolio I prints and is mounted on the same board. It does not, however, bear a portfolio stamp or number and is believed to be designated by Adams as the standard for all prints made for that first portfolio.

The estimate is $20,000-30,000.
