“It has such atmosphere and very rare for a woman to depict such a subject, let alone go to the fight,” says Adrian Pett of Darnley Fine Art.
“She appeared in photographs, alongside her sketches for the painting, in numerous newspapers including The Daily Mail (January 31, 1928) and The Sketch (February 8, 1928).”
The work is offered for £26,500.
Pett adds: “I’ve always liked female artists’ work and always bought the pictures on merit over who painted it. But you can definitely see in demand and prices how female artists works are hotly sought after now, stretching in this country from Mary Beale to Joan Eardley.”
