Some of the 10 new staff members at the west London firm, such as those in the Modern British pictures and Asian art departments, are replacing outgoing staff but others represent a significant expansion for the company.

Leigh Osborne, owner and managing director of Chiswick Auctions, attributes his success in attracting new specialist staff to “the amazingness of Barley Mow”.

A former Sanderson wallpaper factory, it is now a modern warehouse-style gallery space with room for 100 staff and a 3000 sq ft viewing area.
