The Parisian Galerie Ratton-Ladrière will be taking this 2ft 5½x 2ft 4¾in (75 x 73cm) marble portrait medallion of Louis XIV by the French sculptor Marc Arcis (1655-1739) to the Fine Arts Paris & La Biennale fair in November.
The new fair, to be known as Fine Arts Paris & La Biennale, takes place from November 9-13 at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris. It replaces the separate Fine Arts Paris, established in 2017, and La Biennale des Antiquaries, founded in 1956.
Around 80 exhibitors will be showing works across a wide range of disciplines spanning Old Masters to Modern and Contemporary art; sculpture, classic antique furnishings and categories such as antiquities; non-Western (tribal) art, books, Asian art and antique and contemporary jewellery.
The majority of the exhibitors come from France but the international elements include participants from elsewhere in Europe (Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Switzerland, Italy, the UK) and the US.
British participants
Among the British participants are Charles Beddington showing Old Masters; Brun Fine Art which specialises in sculpture, furniture and works of art; Daniel Crouch Rare Books specialising in antique atlases and maps and Kent Antiques bringing Islamic Art.
The fair will be run by the Agence d’Événements Culturels (AEC), which was previously in charge of Fine Arts Paris and is also behind the Salon du Dessin. Managed by Hélène Mouradian, the AEC belongs to nine art dealers and the French art magazine, Connaissance des Arts (which is part of Les Echos Group).
The Syndicat National des Antiquaires (SNA), the association of French antiques dealers which had organised the Biennale at the Grand Palais since 1962, will concentrate its activities on supporting its members and will continue to organise the grand gala dinner it has traditionally hosted.
The fair will be accompanied by a series of cultural events organised in partnership with Paris museums, as part of the French capital’s Semaine des Beaux Arts (Fine Arts Week).
In November 2023 Fine Arts Paris & La Biennale will take place at the Grand Palais Ephemère before moving to the renovated Grand Palais in 2024.
