The 22ct gold necklace, which suspends a fringe of gold plaques and is conceived in the Etruscan revivalist style, is by the Civilotti family of jewellers (Carlo, Antonio and Giuseppe) who were based in Rome and was previewed in ATG No 2548.

It was contained in the original velvet and leather case marked C. Civilotti Roma.

Estimated at $3000-5000, the necklace ended up selling for $25,000 (£20,835) in Maine.
