Measuring 21¼ x 19½in (54 x 50cm), it depicts The Adoration of the Shepherds and is thought to be de Rossi’s reception piece for The Accademia di San Luca, the artists’ guild in Rome.
At Camper & Dabernat (24% buyer’s premium) it realised €550,000 (£474,140) against a €300,000-500,000 guide, selling to a French phone bidder.
