Newbould is celebrated for his travel and war posters. A finished version of this design, promoting Holiday Cruises to the Mediterranean on board RMS P Arcadian is kept in the V&A’s collection.

Offered by Tom Mendel of Nonesuch Art Gallery, it sold to a private collection in south-west England for a price in the region of £2000.

Mendel was one of several newer galleries taking part in the recent London fair, staged in the Mall Galleries from March 23-27. It was the first in-person event that Connect had held since 2020 due to lockdown restrictions.

Tom Mehigan of Thomas Spencer Fine Art (founded in 2018) counted a John Nash offered for £22,000 among his major sales. A specialist in 20th century and contemporary art, he also found new homes for works by Mary Fedden (£6800), Eric Gill (£2400) and Ben Nicholson (£2000).

Newcomer Kynance Fine Art also sold some major Modern British names including works by Fedden, Julian Trevelyan and Barbara Hepworth, while Goodman Fine Art parted with a Bridget Riley and Blond Contemporary with a Warhol.
