The 66 lamps, the epitome of Victorian fashion, generated surprising levels of interest from a core group of collectors.
Against a total low estimate of £3100, they sold in Birmingham for an overall hammer price of £9100.
Some fine examples of the form in coloured glass with column bases were on offer – several featured in a TikTok video created by the auction house that documented the thorough cleaning of the collection, which had previously been stored in an outbuilding.
Double top
The top individual price of £340 was bid twice, first for a lamp with a brass corinthian column base, cranberry reservoir and cranberry-tinted, acid-etched shade (estimate £50-80) and another (pictured above with others) with a silver-plated column base, cut-glass reservoir and acid-etched glass shade (guide £60-100).
