Original doctorate certificate awarded to Albert Einstein by the University of Zurich in 1905 – estimate $300,000-500,000 at Bonhams in New York.
This was Einstein’s annus mirabilis when he published five landmark papers including his most frequently cited paper and thesis A New Determination of Molecular Dimensions. It was this thesis that would earn him the certificate.
The framed vellum certificate is estimated at $300,000-500,000 in Bonhams’ sale of Fine Books and Manuscripts in New York on April 12.
