18th century commode, sold for £6800 at Dawsons.
The 4ft 2in (1.26m) wide olivewood and walnut parquetry-decorated piece was catalogued as ‘probably Maltese’ and estimated at £400-600.
It had replacement handles and some chips to the veneer but the link was good enough for strong Maltese interest and it sold to ‘an overseas buyer’.
