To meet need for money, besieged Royalist noblemen gave their flagons and drinking cups and set up a mint that manufactured lozenge-shaped coins in four denominations – half crowns, shillings, ninepences and sixpences.
This shilling has a guide of £2000-3000 as part of the Michael Gietzelt collection of coins of Charles I and the Commonwealth (1625-60) at Dix Noonan Webb on September 22.
