Equestrian portrait by Jean-Léon Gerome of the famous thoroughbred Dollar, priced €85,000 from Galerie de Bayser at Fine Arts Paris.
The 15 x 18¼in (38 x 46.5cm) oil on canvas, which is signed JL Gerome lower left, is also inscribed upper right in capitals with the horse’s name – suggesting that the work was painted by the artist in situ in 1868, not in the studio.
It is priced at €85,000.
