Among them is Sotheby’s Paris which will be holding its Paris Art Week run of auctions at this time. These include its Modernités auction, taking place on October 26. Headlining this sale is L’Art de la Conversation, an oil on canvas by René Magritte from 1950 which is guided at €9m-12m – the highest-ever estimate for a single lot at Sotheby’s in France.

The 34-lot auction also features Untitled (Yours Treufrischer) by Kurt Schwitters (1887-1948), pictured here.

Schwitters’ 16 x 13in (41 x 34cm) assemblage is one of the artist’s signature multi-media works created in oil, paper, metal, cotton wool and button on nailed board and is in its original artist’s frame. It is inscribed ZWeemann, dedicated für meinen lieben Syndetikon, signed Dein treufrischer Ku Witter and dated 1921 (on the reverse).

It comes from a private European collection and was acquired by the owner c.1995-6 from the Paris Galerie 623. The estimate is €2.5m-3.5m.
