Vishnu’s elaborate three-leafed crown, tight braids and delineated facial features are typical for early Kashmiri sculptures, though few made from green chlorite have survived.
Antwerp gallery Marcel Nies Oriental Art is offering the 10in (25cm) high piece with an asking price of £65,000 at its Mayfair exhibition, Art & Devotion – The Splendour and Worship of Asian Sculpture (October 28-November 6) which is part of Asian Art in London.
