The new gallery in the Hertfordshire town of Harpenden will offer solo and group exhibitions of Modern and Contemporary British art and represent various established art societies, such as the New English Art Club, Pastel Society and Royal Society of British Artists.
“In a time when most retailers and galleries are going online, we are making the opposite change and opening what will be the third gallery under the Thompson’s umbrella”, the firm said in a statement.
It added: “We still feel very strongly that there should be an opportunity to view paintings and sculptures in person and to be accessible to our existing and new clients and to have a strong presence in the community.”
Thompson’s Galleries was founded by John and Sue Thompson in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, in 1982.
The London branch of the gallery is overseen by their daughter Megan Thompson, with both galleries holding up to 24 exhibitions annually specialising in Modern British artists and Scottish Colourists.
