A very long run of the Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society, running to over 60 volumes spanning the years 1883-1933, produced the greatest improvement on estimate at a 10-times-top-estimate £2000.

The colour plate shown is one of the 12 produced by Norman Wilkinson for a limited-edition copy of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Virginibus Puerisque and Other Papers that made £1200 at the July 21 sale.

Published by Chatto & Windus in 1910 for the Florence Press and bound in limp vellum, it was a copy that had belonged to the Scottish artist and illustrator Sir William Russell Flint and was sent to auction by a descendant.
