On November 25 Ader will hold a sale of Indian and Islamic Art and Antiquities that is billed as a homage to Marie-Christine David, a specialist in this field who worked with the firm for 10 years.
Pieces from Marie-Christine’s own personal collection feature, including Indian minatures. This north Indian illustration comes from a Ragamala (a set of paintings representing musical modes).
The 8¼ x 6in (21 x15cm) gouache on paper is a Pahari school work from the state of Chamba or Bilaspur dating from c.1690-1710 and is painted with a couple seated in a yellow walled pavilion: the man playing a tanbura, the woman playing cymbals.
Estimate €6000-8000.
