Examples from the pre-First World War era are rarities.

What was catalogued as an “unusual early 20th century” version on offer at Bishop & Miller (22% buyer’s premium) of Stowmarket in a timed online sale ending on September 26 estimated at £80-120 ended up making £1700 via thesaleroom.com.

Measuring 17in (42.5cm) wide, it featured adjustable mahogany dividers, a cast-iron handle and two later rackets (of relatively modest value) made by Murray & Baldwin and Spalding.
