A match card for the 1905 FA Cup Final came up for sale at Sheffield Auction Gallery (20% buyer’s premium) on September 2, estimated at £400-600.
This was the fourth of Aston Villa’s seven FA Cup wins in total, with Harry Hampton’s two goals without reply seeing off Newcastle. It was played in front of a 101,117 crowd at Crystal Palace where 20 finals took place between 1895-1914.
The card featured the team colours and officials, with the reverse stating the birthplace, height and weight of each player and the reserves. It sold for £2100.
Match postponed
Estimated at £25-40, a programme for an Everton v Leeds United game scheduled for March 15, 1947, sold instead for £1400 at Wessex Auction Rooms (17% buyer’s premium) in Chippenham.
The price is probably explained by the fact that the fixture was never played – it was called off because of ice on the pitch at Goodison Park. Before Everton won the rearranged match 4-1 on May 26, most of the programmes were doubtless pulped.

Programme for an Everton v Leeds United game scheduled for March 15, 1947, but postponed – £1400 at Wessex Auction Rooms.
The programme was bought by a private collector online as part of a single owner collection of programmes sale on October 1. It had been amassed by the late Ken Bridgeman, a regular purchaser from Wessex Auction Rooms. His archive included a wide range of professional and non-league club programmes plus a near-complete run of Swindon Town home and away programmes from the 1946-47 season onwards with a large number of reserve, youth and exhibition matches.
