I’m no expert on antique ivory, but the joy I got seeing these wonderful ancient Chinese and Japanese ivory carvings at major fairs has now gone.
I even purchased a small piece from a reputable dealer at the Chelsea Antiques Fair early last year, who was selling as much as he could, just to own one.
These are the chaps who should sit on committees to decide about modern or ancient ivory.
