Cyrano Abandonné by Hubert de Watrigant - sold by The Osborne Studio Gallery for £18,000.
The 4ft 1in x 6ft 3in (1.25 x 1.92m) mixed media on canvas, titled Cyrano Abandonné, depicts an unmade bed with a copy of the artist’s favourite book Cyrano de Bergerac by French poet and dramatist Edmond Rostand (1868-1918).
The Belgravia gallery’s Geoffrey Hughes said the work “reflects the times” and is among a number of sales the company has made during lockdown restrictions.
Hughes said a combination of window displays, online exhibitions and social media kept sales alive throughout the lockdowns, adding “keeping active throughout the Covid period gave customers confidence in the art and artists”.
