The 3ft 3in x 2ft 6in (1m x 78cm) oil on canvas is in effect a ‘still life within a still life’ as it also features an arrangement of exotic shells in the lower left corner of the painting, under which is the artist’s signature Maria Van Oosterwyck.
The painting will be offered by Ivoire Troyes in its auction on March 26 where it has an estimate of €100,000-150,000.
