Part of the February 9 Stride & Son (18% buyer’s premium) auction, it was formed by Lt Commander EL Marriot in the years 1910-35 and brought together all sorts of material.
However, the principal attraction was the inclusion of 10 typed or autograph letters and cards bearing personal inscriptions to Marriot from his good friend Robert Baden-Powell and family.
Estimated at £200-300, the collection sold for £3600.

Also rather more expensive than anticipated, at £500, was a railway lot. The principal focus dated 1917 was a collection of 36 track plans relating to private sidings at Birkenhead, Wrexham and the Vale of Towy on lines operated by London & North Western and Great Western railways.
A collection of licences, certificates and other ephemera relating to the life and work of John Pace, a 19th century Thames bargeman, in the last quarter of the 19th century made £400.
Among the books, one of 500 large paper copies of a 1927 Macmillan edition of Songs of the Sea from Rudyard Kipling’s Verse…, illustrated by Donald Maxwell and signed by Kipling to the title-page, made £230.
