On offer is a wide-ranging selection from various owners that includes Old Master paintings, Modern art, Asian works of art, maritime artefacts, furniture and objects and silverware.
Included among the furniture is this ebony strung flame mahogany sarcophagus-shaped, floor-standing cellarette dating from the Regency period, c.1820. It measures 20½in x 2ft 10in x 20¼in (52 x 86 x 51cm), retains the original lead lining and features lion mask ring handles to the ends.
It comes with a letter from 2002 from Moxhams Antiques of Bradford-on-Avon in the UK stating that the pencil inscription inside the lid reading April 24th, 1819 William Emmitt of B Banks Cellarette Maker, Litchfield Street, London refers to Benjamin Banks, cabinet and case maker, 3 Litchfield Street, London, in business from 1817-27.
