An example of Thomas Kitchin’s engraved and folding map of 1775, it showed small losses, with holes at the folds and to the outer edges, and there was some discolouration, browning and staining.
No printed elements were lost, said the saleroom, but the estimate at the auction on March 9-10 was set at just £150-250.
It did much better than that – finally selling at £3100.
