ATG letter: Spout and single support – for what?

I was wondering if your readers could help me to properly identify this object that looks like an old drainage trough, which we found in France several years ago.

It is crudely made from very heavy wood, possibly oak, and is nailed together.

It has a single support at one end, and a metal drainage spout at the other, and measures 2ft (60cm) overall.
