IACF Runway and Ardingly postponed
Fair organiser IACF has postponed its Runway Monday event at Newark from February 22 until March 15. March’s Ardingly Antiques Market has been moved to April 20-21.
The dates are subject to any restrictions in place at the time. Check with the organiser ahead of these dates.
Lees joins Dawsons after Holloway’s
Dawsons in Maidenhead and London has appointed James Lees as a general valuer.
He was previously at Holloway’s in Oxfordshire, where he worked for almost 20 years. Last year Holloway’s closed and its assets were purchased by Hansons.
Dawsons has also announced it is holding its first dedicated Jewellery, Watches & Silver auction, led by Dawsons’ head of jewellery Rachel Hutchinson. The sale will be held monthly with the first planned for March 11.
New York art show set for November
The Art Dealers Association of America has announced new dates for its The Art Show. Held annually at the Park Avenue Armory in New York, in 2021 it takes place on November 3-7 at the longstanding venue.
All proceeds from admission to The Art Show and the preview benefit Henry Street Settlement, one of New York’s leading social service, arts and health care organisations.
Auction Antiques appointments
Recent appointments to the Auction Antiques team in Devon include auctioneer and cataloguer Andrew Howarth. The former artist runs the firm’s ‘Ask Andrew’ condition report service.
Pippa Page joined recently as a specialist in the areas of model automotive, toys, comics, 20th century collectables and film. She also works as a photographer, researcher, cataloguer and customer liaison.
The auction house shares the site of The Antique Village, and both are owned by dealers Ian Rosher and Clive London.
Rosher and London also run antiques dealership London Fine Antiques.
Bonhams boosts Canada operation
Bonhams has expanded its presence in Canada by hiring Cailin Broere as new regional consultant for Vancouver and western Canada. She joins Kristin Kearney, director of Bonhams Canada, who is based in Toronto.
Broere joins from a Hong Kong-based art consultant. She will work alongside Kearney in boosting business across western regions of Canada.
Profiles in History now at Heritage
Profiles in History founder Joseph Maddalena has joined US auction house Heritage and his company has been taken on by the Dallas firm.
Maddalena founded Hollywood memorabilia and popular culture specialist Profiles in History in 1985.
Its employees will join Heritage and Maddalena has become executive vice president. The company name will now cease.
Maddalena, born into a family of antiques dealers in Rhode Island, will be based at Heritage’s headquarters in Dallas. However he will also “maintain an active presence in California” where Profiles in History staff are based.
Coin dealer offers civil war hoard
Gloucestershire dealership Silbury Coins is currently offering for sale coins from an English Civil War-era hoard found by a metal detectorist in Ewerby, Lincolnshire in 2016.
The area suffered fierce fighting during the early years of the conflict and it is believed the hoard (with a face value of £34) was buried in 1643.
After processing under the Treasure Act, around 300 coins were acquired by The Collection Museum in Lincoln with the remaining 800 returned to the finder and sold by Morton & Eden in 17 lots in October last year.
Silbury bought just over 400 coins at the auction (primarily Charles I shillings and sixpences) and will sell them individually at between £100- 400 each, together with a printed booklet giving the story of the find.

The number of accepted applicants in 2020 at UK universities for the subject area titled ‘history of art, architecture and design’. This was an increase of 15, roughly 1%, over the 2019 figure, according to UCAS, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service. Of the successful applicants, 84% were female.
