It is with joy that my husband Simon and I greet such postal offerings, and with corresponding derision and irritation that we receive Bonhams (Knightsbridge) catalogues online, though we note that Bonhams in Bond Street still publish hard copy.

User friendly

Why is this? Because they recognise that hard copy is preferable, providing as it does an easy point of reference, entirely portable and not reliant upon a screen, which frequently freezes and which is not simple and is thus time-consuming to activate.

When I asked Bonhams why Knightsbridge no longer offers hard copy catalogues I was told that it was cheaper.

Never mind the client, nor the money they take in from charges to buyer and seller.

Online catalogues can, I suppose, offer some convenience if one is already online, but they are no substitute for that comforting presence in one’s hand which can easily be conversed with over the breakfast table.
