Made and worn by men, these elaborate full-body masks of painted bark cloth represent the spirits of primordial animals that come ‘alive’ when danced.
Priced at €3200, it is among the items for sale from Netherlands- based gallery Tribal Design at Tribal Art Fair Amsterdam, which runs online from April 29-May 3.
Second digital event
The spring event is the second digital event run by Tribal Art Fair Amsterdam and features 30 galleries from the Netherlands and further afield showing up to 50 objects each, including masks, statues, textiles, jewellery and utensils from Africa, Oceania, Asia and North and South America. There is also an online lecture programme.
The exhibitor line-up includes Adam Prout Ethnographic Art, Bryan Reeves – Tribal Gathering, Kapil Jariwala Gallery, Stothert & Trice and new exhibitor David Malik African Art.
