A French automaton black marble and gilt bronze ‘quarter deck’ clock, estimated at $5000-7500 at Fontaine’s Auction Gallery.

The figure of the captain is connected to an ‘X’ suspension with a compound pendulum bob below and rocks from side to side to steer the ship as the pendulum swings.

The clock is fitted with an eight-day French movement by André Romain Guilmet and is signed Medaille Dor, GLT BTE SGDG, Paris and numbered 1207.

It will be offered in the sale at Fontaine’s Auction Gallery at Pittsfield, Massachusetts, on September 12 with an estimate of $5000-7500.
