To the collar is a rotating ring embossed with eight different classic cocktail recipes: Clover Club, Dry Martini, Manhattan, Whisky Sour, Tom Collins, Orange Blossom, Side Car and Bronx. To the base is the moulded mark The Master Incolor Cocktail Shaker Made in England Patent Pending.
Manufactured by De La Rue in a range of different colours, the stylish Deco form was popular at the time in both Britain and the US.
Typically, they bring between £300-600 at auction. When Adam Partridge offered 10 examples in April 2015 they topped out at £760 for a near-pristine example in green. However, in May this year a black Master Incolor estimated at $2000-3000 sold for $19,000 as part of a Prohibition centenary timed online sale held by Sotheby’s New York.
This leftfield price might have encouraged bidding on this example offered at Kingham & Orme’s (20% buyer’s premium) two-day Fine and Decorative Arts Auction on October 9-10. Estimated at £400-600, it sold at £1400.

The sale included three exceptional Lalique lots.
A 6½in (17cm) frosted glass figure of a female nude with lettering for the Cote D’Azure Pullman Express, 9 Decembre 1929 sold at £4800, an Archers pattern vase (model 893) in red amber took £11,000 while a opalescent butterscotch version of the figure Suzanne (model 833) designed in 1925 took £11,500.
