Born on August 8, 1971, Ian attended The Kingswinford School, West Midlands, and King Edward VI College, Stourbridge, and graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 1993. Dedicating his career to IT, Ian honed his skills in both the private and public sectors before seeing the huge benefit of online technology to the auction industry.

As an expert in the field and with boundless enthusiasm and a reputation for hard work, Ian’s auction IT support consultancy business Gavel Masters took off and there is hardly an auction house in the country that has not had Ian, his business partner Caroline Watson or a member of his team in attendance.

Such was Ian’s skill and personality he was taken on as IT manager for Silverstone Auctions full time and oversaw a huge expansion of its website and information technology, together with its sister company Classic Car Auctions. Ian is fondly remembered by the team at both companies and, more importantly, by clients, for his cheery personality was perfectly suited for front of house customer-facing relations, rarely seen among the IT industry.

Eye-catching shirts... and appetite for dancing

Away from his work, Ian is perhaps most fondly remembered for his eye-catching shirts, voracious appetite for dancing and his love for a gin and tonic. Ian owned a part share in a white Rolls-Royce, ticking off driving a Rolls from his bucket list.

Diagnosed in 2019 with cancer and despite his tireless fight against the disease during gruelling therapies, Ian’s good spirit prevailed through the battle. Ian finally found peace on September 14.

He leaves his three adored boys and is survived by his partner.

Ian’s friends and colleagues are raising funds in Ian’s memory by holding a fundraising auction and a crowdfunding campaign. For further details please visit: http://bit.ly/iancurry
