1. This painting by Daniel Sherrin (1868-1940) was offered at Bonhams’ Home and Interiors sale in Knightsbridge on August 5. The 2ft x 3ft 6in (62cm x 1.07m) oil on canvas, Resting by the roadside, was typical of the landscapes of the Norfolk and Suffolk countryside in which he specialised along with maritime scenes. This signed example sold on mid-estimate.

2. Um Cantinho de Amor (A little Place of Love) by Brazilian artist Henry Victor Santos (b.1939) drew interest at Bourne End Auction Rooms on August 5. The subject was somewhat different to his colourful cityscape subjects. The 3ft 4in x 6ft (1 x 2m) oil on canvas was estimated at £200-300 and it outsold another street scene with children by the artist that fetched £110 at the same sale.

3. This etching of the artist Sir Frank Brangwyn is by Joseph Simpson (1879-1930), a Carlisle-born draughtsman who studied at Glasgow School of Art. He became an official war artist in 1918, attached to the RAF. He also designed bookplates but became well regarded as a printmaker. This uncoloured etching from an edition of 75 was signed in pencil by the artist. It sold at mid-estimate at Welsh saleroom Peter Francis on August 5.
