The 15in (39cm) high vase, which has a six-character Yongzheng mark within a double circle to the base, was presented to Sir Oliver by Zhou Enlai, the first premier of The People’s Republic of China on the occasion of his first state visit to Ceylon (Sri Lanka) in late 1956-early 1957.
