Costing over £5 (financing was available), the flagship of the Hornby electric range proved the swan song for 0 gauge with the company’s emphasis then switching to Hornby Dublo from 1938.

Examples of the ‘Lizzie’ in her satin-finished lined maroon livery are still among the most coveted of all Hornby models today.

This example offered as part of the online sale held by Lewes toy specialist auction house Wallis & Wallis (22% buyer’s premium) on April 6, had been professionally restored (the signature of the restorer appeared to the chassis under smoke box).

Offered in its original wooden display box with inner information card, it was pitched at £600-800 but sold at £1200 to a buyer on thesaleroom.com.
