It was, said Bowman, “an almost surreal experience” but he deemed the sale “as successful as any I have held in recent times”.
Among the most eagerly contested lots was this pair of Charles II brass ‘trumpet’ form single knop candlesticks sold for £3050 (estimate £400-600) to an online bidder from south-east England.
One of the 7½in (19cm) high sticks had suffered some old damage to the neck but they were an elegant form and it is unusual to find a pair of 17th century sticks still together after three and a half centuries.
The sale took place on March 28.
