The consignment of 19 pictures, works of art and furniture come for sale in Salisbury from Exbury House, the Hampshire country house acquired by Lionel Nathan de Rothschild (1882-1942) in 1919.
Many of the pieces entered the family via his uncle Alfred de Rothschild (1842-1918), builder of a mock French chateau on the 1400-acre Halton estate in Buckinghamshire.
Around 85 lots with a value in the region of £200,000-300,000 will be split over five different sales between April 1 (Furniture and Works of Art) and September 2 (Old Masters, British and European Paintings).
The silver-gilt figures of a rhinoceros and elephant with Eastern riders and attendants, that were formerly at Halton, have an estimate of £10,000-15,000 on April 1.
UPDATE: please note the sale on April 1 has now been postponed. Woolley & Wallis said that the new date will be confirmed in due course.
