This signposted all 12 of the town’s antiques and vintage shops including a small antiques centre.

It was all going so well when coronavirus struck and the shutters came down. Three long months on, the trail’s premises have all reopened with adaptations to meet the guidelines including sanitiser stations, counter screens and limited customer numbers.

Wood, who owns In a Nutshell Antiques and Interiors in the town, said: “It’s been great to be open again. Business has been steady with lots of regular customers and traders coming out to see us plus some new faces.”

This year there had been plans to promote the trail to international trade buyers, which are on hold, but Wood said: “International trade will return one day but in the meantime we are working closely with Dartmoor National Park to promote Ashburton as a staycation destination and with the antiques trail the town is the perfect spot for antiques lovers.”
