The event runs from January 25-February 1, hosting 25 international art dealers, who exhibit paintings, watercolours and sculpture as well as drawings.

Now in its 14th year, the annual event takes place mostly along Madison Avenue and features pop-up exhibitions and special shows from New York specialists.

Smith’s drawing is part of a show staged by local dealer Christopher Bishop comprising 41 views by the artist of the Big Apple. Exhibited for the first time, the works are in black chalk coloured pencil, watercolour and gouache which the artist had tipped into an album. They previously resided with Smith’s family.

Five first-time participants join this year including Galerie Eric Coatalem, Hans P Kraus Jr Fine Photographs and the Weiss Gallery. Other exhibitors include Didier Aaron, Guy Peppiatt and Colnaghi.

A number of institutions in the city hold partner events, including the Met Museum, which hosts a lecture, and the New York Historical Society.
