The 7½ x 5in (19 x 12cm) work, signed and dated 1960, was purchased at a charity auction by the previous owner’s father some 60 years ago.
A note authenticating the work by Martin Summers, a former director of Lowry’s London agents, the Lefevre Gallery, added to its appeal.
On January 28 the drawing nearly doubled hopes to sell for £10,000 at Stockport saleroom Capes Dunn (20% buyer’s premium).
