At £1700, the 2ft 3in x 3ft 3in (69 x 99cm) design was a joint top seller in a selection of such posters offered at Surrey saleroom Ewbank’s (30% buyer’s premium inc VAT) on October 30 (also see preview in ATG No 2464).
The seven posters made a hammer total of £8350 against a collective top estimate of £3650.
Many would have been designed for tourist offices in other parts of the world in the hope of attracting foreign currency to the Soviet Union. From 1929, Intourist was the official Soviet tourist agency for overseas visitors.
