This mixes works by the artist Hans Hartung and 20th century sculpture with classic examples of 18th century furniture.
The exhibition, which runs at Léage’s rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré gallery from September 10-November 16, has been timed to coincide with the major retrospective on Hartung at the Musée d’art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, which opens on October 11.
Pictured above is an example of the mix on show. The chest of drawers in ebony and mahogany veneer with carved, pierced and gilt bronze mounts and a white veined marble top dates from the last quarter of the 18th century and has the stamp of the ébéniste Jean-Jacques Parfat. It is shown with Hartung’s 1936 acrylic on canvas measuring 2ft 1in x 2ft 8in (65 x 81cm).
