Established in 1991, the auction house has been operating from three premises – two salerooms and additional storage – but will now consolidate into a larger 18,000 sq ft warehouse close to Newbury Racecourse railway station.
This building, which is nearer to the M4 than the previous location, gives the company 50% more space across two floors.
The last auction in the old venue will be Trains Galore on December 17-18 with its monthly antiques and fine art sale on January 7 the first to be held in the new facility.
The firm will continue to hold a sale a week and already has 47 scheduled for 2020.
The new warehouse will accommodate all its 30 staff (full time and consultants) under one roof, and vendors and bidders will have access to a large reception room with improved facilities including refreshments and parking on site.
Directors Thomas Forrester and Neil Shuttleworth decided to invest in the new location more than 18 months ago and, following a year-long wait for planning consent for the mezzanine level, building work started in August.
Shuttleworth said: “It’s been a part of our strategy to grow the amount of lots we are selling and the capacity of our building to ensure we can offer more of the same, but better. In [economically] uncertain times we want to strengthen the infrastructure and improve services.”
The new venue will improve “communication within SAS with vendors, bidders and staff which will enhance the level of service,” Shuttleworth added.
