Catherine Southon’s sale at Farleigh Golf Club on November 27 will offer a private collection of 47 lots of taxidermy put together by the current vendor during the 1970s.

Most of the pieces were acquired from the well-known dealer Christopher Frost of The Enchanted Aviary. Several cases are by Rowland Ward including this display of partridges naturalistically arranged on faux rock with frosted grasses, above. The ebonised case is labelled Ward & Co Naturalists, Zoological Studios, 158 Piccadilly, 4 doors West of St James’s.

Paul Beighton of Thurcroft near Rotherham, South Yorkshire, will sell the first part of the Rowley collection of Rockingham porcelain at auction on November 25.

This 12in (20cm) square basket above with leaf moulded corners (one repaired) and rustic crossed-twig handle is painted to a green ground with a landscape vignette titled New Church Brighton. Dated c.1830-42, it carries an estimate of £300-400.

This Venetian silver gilt ring c.1400 above depicts a merchant meeting a banker – the manifestation of the economic spirit of the time when Venice was the trade capital of Europe.

The merchant holds a bag with coins in his raided hand while the banker holds a coin scale.

The ring features in the Pax Romana auction in London on November 24, consigned from a British collection formed in the 1990s in UK and Europe.

The sale of Dolls, Dolls’ Houses & Traditional Toys at Special Auction Services on November 26 includes a dozen lots of old stock from a shop in Winchester.

Most are trade boxes of toys and trinkets, such as agroup of miniature cast lead scuttles and tongs by Britains. The card box contains three green, two red, three light blue and three dark blue coal scuttles and nine pairs of claw tongs.

Some commercial small silver novelties at the C&T auction in Tunbridge Wells on November 27 include an early 20th century silver pin cushion and ring tree. Marked for Arthur Johnson Smith, Chester 1909, it is formed as a tree with a monkey sat in its boughs.

This very rare pamphlet above titled Execution of Dr Crippen The Naughty Doctor features prose and songs about one of the most famous murderers in British history: the case of American physician Hawley Harvey Crippen who was hanged in Pentonville Prison on November 23, 1910 for the murder of his wife Cora.

The cover of the four-page, large-format pamphlet (that has no publishing information) includes the title together with a woodcut vignette of a hanging. At Forum Auctions of London on November 21 the estimate is £400-600. The only other copy the auction house can find is in the Museum of London.
