On the reverse is: Presented to J Day for meritorious service to your country Great War 1914-19 as well as F&S, initials of the maker, Fattorini & Son. Research indicates that Day was working at a local carpet mill in 1911, probably Flush Mills in Heckmondwike. He died in 1969.

Roan Hackney of London Medal Company, which is standing at the Britannia Medal Fair in London on Sunday, November 15 (see Militaria & Medals feature this issue for more details) and has the 9ct gold medal for sale at £195, said: “Tribute medals were issued by all forms of organisations in cities, towns, villages, clubs and by private companies and were often presented to recipients or their next of kin as a tribute to their service during the Great War. Some are extremely rare.”
